Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
