A Number of Affected as In-Flight Disturbance Impacts A Delta Airlines Plane Arriving in Sydney, Australia

Delta Airlines reported the plane encountered "short-lived rough air" as it touched down at its destination.

A number of individuals have been injured following a Delta flight originating in Los Angeles to Sydney was hit by significant turbulence this past Friday.

Flight DL41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it landed at Sydney Airport, a representative for the carrier stated. Several cabin crew members sustained injuries.

Emergency medical services stated they evaluated five patients, and transferred a trio to hospital with relatively minor issues that comprised spinal discomfort and head pain. Those affected were between their 30s to 70s.

The event represents the latest incident of planes experiencing atmospheric disturbance, with researchers indicating that shifting climate patterns is a key driver.

On board were 245 people and fifteen staff members on the wide-body jet, the official noted, adding that the plane landed "without further incident" at the airport at 06:48 local time on Friday morning.

The NSW Ambulance Service indicated they were alerted just only 180 seconds ahead of the plane arrived, and response teams were waiting on the tarmac.

The reasons turbulence is growing more common - and more severe.

Last year, two dozen individuals were injured when a Delta Airlines flight, travelling from Salt Lake City, Utah to Amsterdam, experienced "significant" rough air just two hours into the long-haul flight, and diverted for an emergency landing.
